What Makes the 114 Visa Different?

The Aged Dependent Relative visa (subclass 114) allows a single, pension-age person, who is financially dependent on an eligible Australian relative, to migrate permanently to Australia—but only if you apply and remain outside Australia until a decision is made. Long queues, strict eligibility, and the inability to wait in Australia make the process uniquely challenging for many families.

Why Offshore? Unique Issues for 114 Applicants

You cannot apply or wait in Australia. You must be physically offshore at time of application, while waiting, and at the moment of decision.
No Bridging Visa. Unlike subclass 838 applicants, you will not get a bridging visa for Australia while your 114 application is in process.
Separation from family: Many applicants spend years—or even decades—apart from their sponsor in Australia.

Police checks are required for every country you’ve lived in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years—even if you have since left that country.
Health checks: You must attend panel clinics outside Australia. If your health deteriorates while waiting, your visa could be refused even after years in the queue.
Tip: Health and police checks may expire during the queue wait—be ready to repeat them at final processing.
