Pork Industry Labour Agreement

Sponsor Overseas Senior Stockpersons (Piggery) for Your Business

The Pork Industry Labour Agreement allows Australian piggery businesses to sponsor skilled overseas workers in the occupation of Senior Stockperson (Piggery) for up to 4 years (temporary) and/or permanent residence. All terms and conditions are fixed and non-negotiable. Some concessions vary by visa subclass and business location.

    (No ANZSCO code—use 070499 for nomination)

Visa Options

You can sponsor for:

  • Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482)
  • Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa (subclass 494)
  • Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186) (after three years on 482/494)

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

Senior Stockpersons (Piggery) may:

  • Supervise site, staff, equipment, safety, and consumables
  • Oversee quality assurance programs and documentation
  • Supervise data collection, inventory control, and maintenance
  • Select breeding stock and/or pigs for sale
  • Supervise and participate in daily livestock inspections, feeding, watering, and animal health management
  • Euthanise animals humanely; conduct post mortems and report findings
  • Manage artificial insemination and birthing processes
  • Supervise animal health, ensure welfare standards, and implement training
  • Perform any other duties as required by management

English Language Requirements

  • 482 visa:
    Meet English for the short-term stream (typically IELTS 5.0 overall, no minimum band, or equivalent)
  • 186/494 visas:
    IELTS 5.0 overall, minimum 4.5 in each band, or equivalent
  • Workers with 5+ years of full-time English-medium study may also be eligible

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

To qualify as a Senior Stockperson (Piggery), overseas workers must have:

  • Option 1:
    AQF Certificate III in Agriculture (Pig Production) or equivalent
    plus 3 years recent, relevant work experience in a medium-to-large commercial piggery
  • Option 2:
    AQF Certificate III in Agriculture (Pig Production) and at least 18 months relevant Australian work experience
  • Option 3:
    5 years’ recent and relevant work experience

The same work experience can count for both occupation and visa eligibility requirements. Minimum experience may vary depending on business location and visa subclass.

Salary & Employment Conditions

  • Meet salary requirements for 482, 494, and 186 visas
  • In Category 3 regional locations: minimum earnings may be 90% of TSMIT
  • All sponsored workers must be employed full-time
  • If equivalent Australians are paid more, you must top up the overseas worker’s pay accordingly

Age Requirements

  • No age limit for 482 visa
  • 186/494 visas:
    • Category 1: Standard age limits (usually under 45)
    • Category 2/3: Under 55 years at time of application
